Dry needling is a procedure in which a solid filament needle is inserted into the skin at a myofascial trigger point, tendon, ligament, bone, or muscle junction. It involves insertion and sometimes repetitive manipulation of the needle to stimulate a healing response. No medication is injected.
Dry needling is not always a treatment by itself. It is typically done in conjunction with other forms of physical therapy. These treatments may include exercises, postural training, education, and other hands-on techniques such as soft tissue work and manipulation. Dry Needling should only be performed by a licensed medical professional with certification in this specialized treatment, and we are happy to offer this service at Ortho PT.
