Ladies, chances are if you are pregnant, have had a baby or your age is advancing, you may currently be experiencing incontinence. You know…the sneeze-pee. Forget about jumping jacks. Laughing may cause tears down your legs instead of your face. YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. Incontinence and other pelvic floor conditions can be treated at Ortho PT by a specialist who can get you back to a life without discomfort or runs to the bathroom.
The pelvic floor is comprised of muscle fibers and connective tissue, and just like any other part of the body in many cases responds to physical therapy. If your “floor” is too weak it may cause incontinence or prolapse, and tight muscles can cause pain with intercourse or even tampon use. Our specialists at Orthopedic Physical Therapy can evaluate your condition and create a tailored program just for you.
If you are currently pregnant, you may develop discomfort such as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, or rib pain. Although in most cases these conditions will resolve themselves after your baby is born, you do not have to wait until then to get relief. Our physical therapists are specially trained to treat pregnant women and some of the side effects that come with carrying a little life inside you. We have specialized equipment, including a pillow that allows pregnant moms to lay on their stomach during treatment (bliss!!).
Once baby arrives, you will need to work your pelvic floor to tighten the muscles again. Or, you may have experienced tearing or have a scar from a C-section. If your baby is more than six weeks old and you are not seeing improvements, it may be time to take the next step. A skilled pelvic specialist at Ortho PT is able to address these postpartum issues and send you on the road to recovery much faster than waiting for things to heal on their own – which may not happen without intervention.
If you are struggling with incontinence or pain with intercourse, please discuss it with your health care providers! Pelvic therapy may be your answer to a more comfortable, pain-free life. You may visit our Women’s Health Clinic for more information on the diagnoses we treat and our providers. We accept most health insurances, and many allow direct access to our office without a referral.
